12/31/21 A Letter from Jess and Jen:

As we sigh a breath of relief that 2020 is over, we are happy to report that we (and YOU, our customers and supporters) have not only survived an unprecedented time to start a business, but we have also achieved some pretty impressive goals. Our community came out in spades to help our dreams come true, and we are forever grateful to you.

Some of the goals we accomplished include: we have reduced single-use plastic consumption; we have contributed to five different local eco-conscious nonprofit organizations; we have provided a space for artists and makers to popup; we have increased the number of LOCAL ALASKAN MAKERS to over 45% of our vendors; we have grown our membership!  We are proud of all we've achieved and humbled by your support.  Here are more details about these accomplishments:

1)  Less Plastic Waste (Refill. Not Landfill.):
By refilling containers or purchasing those that are reusable or biodegradable, our customers have saved thousands of plastic containers from making it into the landfill or our oceans.  The chart above says it all.  We are making an impact!

2)  $2,414 Donated to Local Eco-Conscious Organizations
We are proud of our 1% Giving Back Program, and that we were able to keep this part of our vision alive throughout a topsy-turvy time. These are the fabulous organizations we (and you) have supported so far:
- Friends of Fish Creek
- Alaska Marine Conservation Council (AMCC)
- Alaska Youth for Environmental Action
- Seeds of Change
- Alaska Sealife Center
- Alaska Food Policy Council (our current recipient)

3)  288 MEMBERS IN 2020!! (THANK YOU!!!!)
We have started to see Blue Market AK Members' shopping bags around town - and our chest swells a little. Thank you for supporting us. This year's membership is available for $100 and good through December 31, 2021 (note membership is prorated each quarter). Membership includes a Blue Market AK plant-based compostable shopping bag and 10% off every time you shop with us, plus a whole lot of gratitude from us.

4)  20 Local Makers POPPED UP from October through December 2020
Our Makers Corner was vibrant with different artists and makers.  See the article below for more information about this program.

With full hearts, we thank you and look forward to a 2021 full of more milestones and health,

With love,
Jen and Jess
